HÉLÈNE KÖNIG

Artist walking beside three sculptural mirrors from the Reflection series by Hélène König

Born in France and currently living and working in Bundjalung Country (Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia) Helene is an autodidact by nature who has navigated the journey from fashion design to visual art with a seamless blend of creativity and innovation. Over the past five years, she has transformed what began as a tentative creative outlet into compelling bodies of work, now proudly showcased.

Hélène's journey into the world of art is deeply intertwined with her personal quest for inner peace and emotional tranquility. Her childhood, marked by challenges and an ever-present sense of longing, serves as both the backdrop and impetus for her creative endeavours. She masterfully incorporates soft textures and gentle curves to counteract the relentless fast pace of modern society, replacing it with an inviting stillness.

Each creation is a deeply personal odyssey, where Hélène channels her introspections into her practice. She transforms complex emotions into works of beauty and serenity that offer a sanctuary of psychological respite, standing as silent testimonies to the power of art in fostering healing and well-being. Through her work, she creates spaces where quietude and balance can be found and invite viewers to witness a serene, contemplative sphere that echoes a profound sense of inner calm.

Hélène's dedication to creating with minimal environmental impact underscores her commitment to thoughtful and mindful artistry. Nature serves as an ever-present muse, offering boundless inspiration and a serene backdrop for creation. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, Hélène finds peace and inspiration in the natural world, channeling its beauty into each artistic endeavour.

Hélène’s creative journey is a testament to the transformative power of art, where sustainability and aesthetics converge in a harmonious blend.

Papier-mâché remains a central medium in her practice, valued for its versatility and sculptural richness. Alongside this, she works with salvaged polystyrene collected from local businesses — material otherwise destined for landfill — giving it a renewed purpose through layering, carving, and reimagining. These methods not only reduce waste but also allow for expansive, textured forms that blur the line between functional object and sculpture.

Her process extends beyond vessels to encompass mirrors and larger wall-based artworks, each undergoing a similar evolution of restoration, enhancement and transformation. Discarded and overlooked objects are elevated into striking pieces that carry both visual impact and ecological intention.

Every creation is infused with a deep respect for the environment and a belief in the potential of the abandoned. By prioritising sustainable methods, Hélène ensures that each work is not only visually compelling but also a statement of ecological mindfulness. Her aim is to invite others to recognise value in what might otherwise be lost, and to see beauty in the act of renewal itself.

Through this innovative approach, each piece stands as a testament to transformation — celebrating the endless possibilities that emerge when the old is given new life.
